Discovery Channel: NORWAY MASSACRE: THE KILLER’S MIND

Experts analyse the criminal mind and motives of Anders Behring Breivik

It’s the world’s worst spree killing. At 9pm on Discovery Channel Norway Massacre: The Killer’s Mind examines the terrible events of that day.

In 90 minutes of madness, 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik killed 69 young people.

The film pieces together Breivik’s day of terror hour by hour, from the time of the bomb he set off in Oslo, to the cold blooded shooting of defenceless youngsters on the remote island beauty spot of Utøya.

Who is this man, and what made him act?

This film examines the criminal mind and motives of one of the world’s worst killers, offering psychological analysis, as the day of the massacre unfolds.

We examine his motives, analyse his likely psychological journey through the planning stages and over the course of the day itself and ask what drove him to plan and carry out this massacre. Was he a terrorist as he claimed, a madman, or was he indeed both?

Behind Norway’s Kristallnacht

The massacre in peaceful Oslo was a replay of this earlier horror in reverse no longer the Jews as victims but as the inspiration of terror against non-Jews as Israel extends its wars not only to Greek ports and French airports but to Norwegian children’s camps, complete with rabbinical blessings for the murderers, notes Eric Walberg

Norway is in a state of total shock after the 22 July car bombing in Oslo killing seven, followed by the shooting spree at a Labour Party youth camp on Utoya Island killing 69. This terrorist operation, the worst massacre in Norway’s recent history, represents a greater loss proportional to its five million people than 9/11 did to the US. Speaking of which, an initial report in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian, et al attributed the attack to Islamists (resentful of Norway’s democracy, etc), “a terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad”.

This was according to Dr William McCants, a “terrorism analyst at CNA, a research institute that studies terrorism”, author of a terrorist watchdog blog jihadica.com. CNA is too obscure to be found on the web, and expert McCants quickly retracted his claim. The NYT later admitted Global Jihad may not even exist (let alone CNA), but who reads the fine print in subsequent editions or checks if various “organisations” are actually fronts for something much more sinister, as long as it’s a question of “Islamists”?

Norwegians ready for a Gestapo style police

Half of Norwegians will accept that the Police can arrest people on the street, and “keep them” without presenting them before a judge.

The poll scientists in Norway were surprised that the Norwegian people are ready to give up their legal rights towards the police, if there is a terror threat towards the nation.

The study was conducted back in 2006, and tested the waters after the September 11 2001 attack in the US, the London bombing and Madrid terrostist attack in 2004. A total of 1332 persons gave feedback to the scientists form Norsk samfunnsvitenskapelig datatjeneste (NSD).

The amount of Norwegians who are ready to give the police power to held people for an unlimited amount of days, are probably much higher today, after the Massacre on Utøya. We are surprised over so many Norwegians being willing to terminate their own legal rights, explains professor Anne Lise Fimreite and scientist Lise H. Rykkja.

About Oslo terrorist on blogs

Who are the scribblers/bloggers influencing Breivik? It seems to me that they include Kevin MacDonaldFjordmanFrank Salter, and other usual suspects. We should note that although Breivik often mentions the Frankfurt School (high V, low M!) he also declares himself to be anti-racist and pro-Israel. However you can’t take his words at face value because at some point he notes that cultural conservatives like himself should emulate the Frankfurters and misrepresent their true beliefs when necessary.

Note added: Breivik’s 1000+ page magnum opus is a detailed how-to manual for revolution as well as an ideological tract. For example, it tells you how to get in shape for fighting by, among other things, taking steroids. Yes, the mass killer is a Winstrol roider who “got into fighting shape in only 4 months”!

A few random observations:

- This evil bastard is one cold-blooded, rational Northern European. I’m reminded of an underlying tragic theme of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings that stems from Tolkien’s combat experience on the Somme in the Great War: all of this Northern European efficiency can go terribly wrong when it turns to organized killing, at which Northern Europeans are the champs. This terrorist is the kind of rationalist who estimates the probability of failure of the various steps in his planning, like a 30% chance of getting caught while buying fertilizer to make his bomb. (It’s a good thing that Finnish sniper Simho Hayha who killed, one at a time, 505 armed Russian soldiers in 1939-1940 wasn’t an evil bastard or there could have been thousands of dead children.)

Oslo terrorist a right-wing fundamentalist?

When news first broke yesterday of the bombing and massacre in Norway, several analogies came to mind: Madrid. Mumbai. Of course, in the US, we always think of 9/11. According to the latest from Oslo, however, the better analogy might be Oklahoma City. Police have arrested a 32-year-old described as a Christian fundamentalist and a right-wing extremist for the murder of 91 people in yesterday’s attacks:

The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead.

The police said they did not know if the man, identified by the Norwegian media as Anders Behring Breivik, was part of a larger conspiracy. He is being questioned under the country’s terrorism laws, the police said, and is cooperating with the investigation of the attacks, the deadliest on Norwegian soil since World War II.

Terrorism experts and terrible crimes

In the morning of 22 July I finished a comment on a research paper on terrorism. However, I was unable to get much work done later following the news of a major explosion in my home town of Oslo

BBC news coverage quickly turned to various terrorism experts, who were happy to comment extensively despite the lack of clarity over exactly what had happened. A number of experts told us that it was not surprising that Norway had been attacked due to its international involvement in various conflicts and the large Muslim immigrant community. One expert reminded us that Bin Laden was assassinated two months ago, and argued that this was the normal time required to plan a terrorist attack. Some people looked beyond an Islamic terrorism connection, with the Tamil Tigers cited as a possible perpetrator (rather puzzling, as the Sri Lankan authorities repeatedly have accused the Norwegian government of a pro-Tamil bias).
